UPDATE: Police find pilot’s credit cards on the scene

BORDEAUX - Police have found personal documents of the pilot who died after his Gyro ZU-DNL crashed near Old Parktonian Club, in Bordeaux.

Department of Transport’s Director of Accident and Incident Investigation, Sam Monareng said the pilot in one Gyro ZU-DNL and a friend in another aircraft took off from Panorama Airfield  to meet up with other pilots at Eagle Creek near Lanseria.

“En route, above Northcliff Hill, the pilot in front turned slightly to see if the pilot was still behind him,” said Monareng.

The friend said at that time, the pilot was still flying behind him.

Monareng of the National Department of Transport, explained that when the friend arrived at Eagle Creek, “he tried to contact his friend on the radio but was unsuccessful”. He said the aircraft was found near the Old Parktonian Sports Club.

“The pilot was fatally injured and the aircraft was destroyed,” said Monareng.

Meanwhile, police managed to find the dead pilot’s identity at the scene of the crash,  near the Old Parktonian Sports Club.
During a follow-up investigation on 7 November, police found his driver’s licence and credit cards.
Gauteng Provincial police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng confirmed that the deceased is now known, but they want to inform his family before revealing his name to public.
“The deceased was aged 57,” said Captain Mofokeng.

A friend [who did not want to be identified] said they went on an air journey in the afternoon [6 November].
He said “We went on separate microlights, heading to the same direction. My friend followed with his microlight, but suddenly lost control and crashed.”
