UPDATE: City Power official appears in court

JOBURG – City Power senoir official has been suspended until his next court date after being arrested on charges of cable theft and stolen property.

City Power has suspended its risk and compliance manager, Isaac Dube, until his next appearance in court.

In a media statement, City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheik said Dube appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 November on charges of cable theft and stolen property and the case was postponed until 11 November.

According to Sheik’s statement, Dube was arrested for being in possession of four cable drum rolls worth R350 000 each.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed Dube’s arrest but said he has not been found guilty yet.

“Dube will remain in police custody until the next set court date,” said Dlamini.

City Power’ managing director Sicelo Xulu said Dube’s suspension will remain in force until the court proceedings have been finalised.

“City Power has a responsibility to its stakeholders, customers and ratepayers to ensure that it operates in accordance to stringent corporate governance

standards. As a law-abiding corporate citizen, we respect the legal principle of being presumed innocent until proven guilty,” said Xulu.

Xulu said City Power felt it prudent to suspend Dube from active employment to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

He further assured ratepayers that business will still proceed as usual and that the arrest will have no affect on service delivery.
