Tag Me feature to keep communities safe

JOHANNESBURG – Cellphone app that pin points your location for safety reasons.

Mobile application Ttrumpet, has launched a safety feature called Tag Me.

Tag Me is a real-time feature within the app aimed at families, friends, communities and active sportspeople. It enables individuals to pin or mark their journey home while on their way back from a specific location, allowing personally selected people to identify their exact location and whether they have gone off route, as well as allowing the user the ability to alert their followers in cases of distress.

Instead of calling or messaging friends to notify them that the user has reached home safely, selected friends can track each other home in real-time by simply inviting a friend or group of friends to track the user. As a result of this functionality, this feature is also of great value to cyclists, hikers, runners and other sportspeople, as it leaves a trail of the user’s whereabouts via the blue dot navigation, which shows which route they have taken and updates tracking sessions every 10 seconds.

The next update of the Ttrumpet app will provide even more enhanced features whereby fences can be set up. Parents’ biggest concern is the safety of their children, whether they have arrived home safely from school or if they are in fact where they say they are. This feature is great as they can set up fences where they will be able to create a fence around a school or home notifying them that their child left or arrived safely. It also identifies safe zones, alerting parents in the event that their children move out of the set restricted areas.

New features will also have channels for communities to be involved where they can report crimes to direct members of their communities. If you are not a member of the community you will not have access to that channel. Creative Executive for Ttrumpet, Zanele Zicwele said, “We are also working on getting the South African Police Service and security companies involved.”
