WA Road Construction assured that the construction and repairs of the sidewalk in Surrey Avenue in Ferndale will be completed by February next year. The pavement portion outside the Nu-Hold Group’s office in Surrey Avenue between Bond and Dover streets has been eroding since February last year.

Site Agent Mpume Mkhwanazi from WA Road Construction explained that they were trying by all means to ensure that the project was completed urgently.
Mkhwanazi thanked Dirk Botha from Krisp Properties Commercial who found the vacant stand which they are currently using as the construction site.
“We were struggling to get a site but he was very supportive and he assisted us,’ she said.
On 2 November workers were on site replacing the storm water pipes. “The pipes that where here were not reinforced and cracked. So we are replacing them with the new pipes before it starts raining,” she added.
She concluded that the road is dangerous since it was flooded. “Everything was exposed, it was even dangerous for the cars passing there.”
Botha in turn thanked Ward 102 Councillor David Potter for his persistence in ensuring that Joburg Roads Agency attended to their problem.
Potter said he was pleased to hear that JRA was finally on site repairing the collapsed storm water pipes which resulted in a very dangerous situation along Surrey Avenue.
“I trust that the JRA will attend to the matter with expertise and speed,” said Potter.
He said the JRA needed to move onto the collapsed embankments of William Nicol Drive near the corner of Peter Place where promises of repair has been forthcoming for the past four years, without any action on site to date. “An independent report noted the danger and urgency in which remedial work needs to take place, but this has not hit home with the JRA as yet,” concluded Potter.
