Business owners need to be vigilant

HONEYDEW – Police advise business owners to ensure they have adequate security during this festive season.

Honeydew Police have warned business owners to be more vigilant of suspicious activities during this festive season.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs explained that owners and managers should ensure that they have adequate security in place at all times.

“Please test the security on a regular basis to ensure that your panic buttons are working and also that you have all the emergency numbers visible for your staff members in case of an emergency, especially after hours,” she said.

Extra Safety tips:

  •  Avoid the accumulation of large amounts of cash in cash registers, make use of drop safes.
  •  Keep lines of observation in the business open.
  •  Where possible, make use of CCTV cameras that are strategically installed near the exit, entrances and cash registers.
  •  Keep the premises well-illuminated, also on the outside.
  •  Sensitise your employees to be extra vigilant, especially at night, and to report all suspicious people or vehicles immediately to your security company or SAPS.
  •  Ensure that ALL emergency numbers are at all times available to your employees.
