Bloubosrand community vows to keep Nautilus Park clean

BLOUBOSRAND – Residents clean up their community park and plant flowers

Residents in Bloubosrand got together on 10 October and cleaned up their community park.

They picked up all the broken glasses and rubbish littered around the Nautilus Park.

Community leader Carmen Haasbroek said that with plants donated by the community, they managed to create a couple of flowerbeds in the park.

“A huge thank you to all the residents involved,”said Haasbroek.

Haasbroek also asked residents to join the closed group Facebook page, Bloubosrand Community, and the WhatsApp group because that is where information about the community is shared.

She said the community is engaging with the JMPD to assist with enforcing bylaws, specifically for littering and consuming alcohol in the park.

Ward 96 Councillor Matome Mafokwane said they have approached Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo to assist with an upgrade of the park, and also with equipment to create a better and friendly playing place for children.

Mafokwane said they still need more flowers and indigenous trees.

“I love the initiative and I salute Carmen Haasbroek for pushing this forward. People can’t just keep the parks dirty. At the end of the day, these are their parks,” said Mafokwane.
