GALLERY: A21 Campaign walks with Rhema Church

RANDPARK RIDGE – Members from the A21 Campaign partner with Rhema Bible Church to create awareness about human trafficking through a fun walk.

The A21 Campaign with the support of Rhema Bible Church held a 5km fun walk to create awareness about human trafficking on 18 October. Over 300 people took part in the walk as Johannesburg was one of five cities across South Africa to host the walk.

Mandy Murugan from the A21 Campaign said that they wanted to end human trafficking in the 21st century. “We are trying to create awareness about the issue and at the same time raise funds for the organisation as all proceeds go toward helping the victims,” she said. Murugan added that the victims who contacted the campaign were usually in a bad condition, emotionally scarred and suffering from malnutrition.

She pointed out that there was currently 27 million people worldwide who were kept as modern slaves and the victims were as young as 12 years old. “People need to watch out for jobs that are too good to be true. Always check to see if the advert for job seekers is true and legit. Human trafficking can happen to anyone at any time, we all need to be careful,” Murugan said.

Pastor Giet Khoza from Rhema Bible Church, in Randpark Ridge, said that human trafficking was the biggest illegal business worldwide and that the church cannot keep quiet about it anymore. “One life lost is one too many and we must act and support the victims of these atrocities through our police and court system,” he said.
