Bikers ride for Bandana Day

FOURWAYS – R30 000 was raised for the Sunflower Fund by the MOTH bikers association, who rode from Boksburg to Montecasino.

The Sunflower Fund held its annual Bikers4Bandanas rally on 11 October, in celebration of National Bandana Day on 12 October. Takalani Ramaphosa, public relations and events specialist for the Sunflower Fund said that bikers from all over Johannesburg came together to ride for a purpose. Ramaphosa added that the ride started at Adventure Inn in Boksburg and ended at the Tops at Spar Bierfest at Montecasino.

She added that Bikers4Bandanas is an annual event hosted by the Sunflower Fund in association with the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH) Motorcycle Association in order to raise awareness around Bandana Day and the plight of leukaemia and other blood related diseases.

“The event was a huge success and we managed to raise R30 000 in support of patients suffering from leukaemia and other blood-related disorders. All funds raised by The Sunflower Fund go towards specialised tissue type testing to place donors on the South African Bone Marrow Registry,” she added.

She pointed out that the Sunflower Fund was a non-profit charity that aims at building the South African Bone Marrow Registry in the hopes of saving lives of patients who suffer from leukaemia and other blood-related diseases.

“All funds raised by the Sunflower Fund go towards the specialised DNA tissue type testing that may assist in finding a life-saving stem cell donor for a patient who desperately needs a transplant,” Ramaphosa said.
