Joburg City apologises for incorrect pre-termination notices

JOBURG – City of Joburg regrets causing any inconvenience to residents who received incorrect pre-termination notices.

From 1 December residents of Joburg will be billed on their municipal statement per region as the City website is going to launch the regionalisation of its billing.

It will allow customers to be billed from the region of their residing areas. However, the impact of this exercise to customers was expected to only be noticed in January 2016 statements.

The introduction of regionalisation had caused the City to send incorrect pre-termination notices to residents.

“The City of Joburg regrets causing any inconvenience to its customers who received incorrect pre-termination notices as a result of change in their due dates for payment of services during the past two months,” explained director of customer communications Kgamanyane Maphologela.

He indicated in a statement that inconvenience was caused by the implementation of the new amended credit control policy.

“The City realises that this change should have been communicated better beforehand and regret any inconvenience experienced by customers. Furthermore, the City wishes to advise that all charges relating to the issuing of pre-termination notices will be reversed,” said Maphologela.

Residents were encouraged to pay their municipal bills as per their normal due dates as the City was working to restore their normal dates. This changes means that current customer’s billing date, meter reading and due dates will change.

The City advised that residents could benefit greatly as they will be able to choose their own due date from the 15th until the last day of the month.

He further explained that the billing regionalisation initiative will empower the City to understand its customers better and lead to improved billing accuracy.

A list of suburbs will be available on the City’s website as from 1 November to help residents know which region they fall under.

Customers can either phone the Call Centre on 0860 562874 or email it to duedates@joburg.org.za or visit their nearest Customer Service Centre.
