The Trinityhouse Preparatory School Randpark Ridge Grade 4 class was awarded the floating trophy from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League in Regents Park on 6 October. The school was awarded the trophy for the 10th year in a row and has made a total contribution of more than R160 000 to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League. They recently handed over R25 000 to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League from their market day proceeds.
Grade head Janet Taylor said that they wanted to instill a very strong charity ethos in their pupils while they were at an impressionable age. “We collect our funds from a market day that the Grade 4s host for the school. Parents donate ingredients and the children sell cupcakes and self-made jewellery, among other things. We donate all the money that we collect to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League,” Taylor said.
She added that she could see the difference that their annual donations made, there were changes made to the yard with new out-houses being built. Manager of the league Cindy Price said that they greatly appreciated the school’s efforts in helping them every year. “Animals need space, tranquil surroundings, care and protection and that’s what we provide for them here. Our animals that we have here are ready for adoption and have had all the necessary procedures and are ready to go to a loving home,” she said.
Price added that children are the future and hoped that the children who came to visit their animals remember them once they grew older as the league needs ongoing support from the public.
She pointed out that they were equipped to take care of about 300 cats and dogs at full capacity and that any support that they received was appreciated. The children were given pizza for lunch and received pens and a ruler from the league.
