Water upgrade in Randpark Ridge

RANDPARK RIDGE – Details are still sketchy but water pipes in Randpark Ridge will be upgraded soon.

Joburg Water will soon replace and upgrade the old water pipes in Randpark Ridge.

Vuk’uphile Learnership Programme Community Liaison officer Bonga Ngubane said he is still waiting for confirmation from Joburg Water on the details of the project.

“It is not clear yet, when the project will commence and what times the area will be affected but the project will start within the next three weeks,” said Ngubane.

Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl said details have also not been communicated to her yet, but she does know certain streets in extensions 13 and 16 will be affected.

Van Zijl said the contractors will set-up camp at the top of the embankment parallel to Beyers Naudé next week but it should not be a concerning matter to residents.

“This is for a site office and the storage of materials and equipment. It should have no negative impact on the surrounding residents. A guard will be on site to protect the equipment at night,”said Van Zijl.

Ward councillor added that she has requested that details be made available to the public as soon as possible.

She said water supply will only be affected once the pipes have been laid out and thus far there should be no electricity interruptions.

“In the unlikely event that electricity is affected it must be reported to City Power immediately,” said Van Zijl.

The councillor also advised residents to take photos and videos of pavements and driveways and remove any special plants in advance.

“Insist the reinstatement, especially of your driveway, is done to your satisfaction before the contractors leave. It is always difficult to get them back at a later time,” advised Van Zijl

She also said residents should ensure there is a tap or stopcock on the property side where the main power supply can be turned off in case of an emergency.

Details: Ward 98 councillor Laurette van Zijl 082 330 0593; City Power 011 490 7000; Joburg Water 011 688 1400.
