How to apply for a Smart ID card at your bank

JOBURG – Banks provide the means to acquire a new Smart ID card.

The Smart ID card pilot was rolled out by the Department of Home Affairs in Newtown on 30 September.

Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba said they have linked their system with Absa, FNB, Nedbank and Standard Bank in order to undertake the Smart ID card process.

He said starting from November this year, residents will be able to apply for the Smart ID cards in participating banks.

“The first one is free, and a reprint is rated at R140, including everyone converting their green ID book to ID card,” he said.
