Domestic Watch warns of suspicious activities

KENSINGTON B – Regular domestic watch meetings will help reduce suspicious activities in various suburbs.

Randburg Police held two Domestic Watch meetings on 30 September to inform domestic workers about developing crime trends.

These meetings help to strengthen the relationship between police and domestic workers.

The first meeting was held on the corner of Bram Fischer and Jan Smuts Avenue while the second one was held on the corner of Garden Road and Parks Street in Bordeaux.

Sector 1 manager Constable Vincent Hlungwane warned domestic workers to watch out for suspicious activities in their suburbs.

He said the easiest way to report crime was to call the sector contacts rather than 10111.

“To ensure that police respond swiftly to any crime incidents residents must call the sector manager,” Const Hlungwane explained.

According to him residents were working around the suburbs listening to music through their earphones without recognising what is happening around them.

“Criminals easily snatches the phones as residents are not aware,” Sector 1 manager said.

Const Hlungwane concluded that it was of paramount importance for domestic workers to refrain from being lured into buying goods at a cheaper price.

“Most people become victims of buying stuff at half price, residents need to learn to buy goods at a normal price,” he concluded.

Randburg Saps spokesperson Const Stanley Bopape added that domestic workers were advised to avoid opening gates for strangers when their employers were not home.

“We advised them to press the panic button and call the police before they open the gate,” Const Bopape concluded.

Details: Randburg SAPS 011 449 3514; Sector 1 Patrol vehicle 071 675 7115.
