Intersection upgrade near Hoërskool Randburg

FONTAINBLEAU – Hoërskool Randburg pupils will now safely pass the Malibongwe Drive after an intersection upgrade.

Pupils of Hoërskool Randburg can now safely cross the Malibongwe Drive since the pedestrian crossing was revamped.

Warning signs are visible.

The Joburg Road Agency (JRA) has increased the vehicle-stopping distance and robots are highly visible.

The school principal Pieter Booysen thanked all the stakeholders that were involved in the upgrading of the existing crossing.

“Obstacles in line of sight have been moved. A total safety upgrade will surely help minimise future risk of accidents involving pupils crossing Malibongwe,” explained Booysen.

He thanked the Ward 102 councillor David Potter for his insight, help and support.

“Thank you all for supporting the cause of our school and its children,” he concluded.

Potter said the JRA was instrumental in the upgrade of the traffic signal and intersection by moving traffic signal poles and stop lines further way from the pedestrian crossing allowing for larger distance between pedestrians and vehicles.

“Due to the quick response from the JRA, the intersection will now pose less risk to the scholars crossing the busy Malibongwe Drive.

“I cannot understand why the school was not built with a bridge across Malibongwe Drive,” he explained.

According to Potter the school took a proactive approach and contacted his office and with the JRA, they worked on the solution.

“Furthermore, the school has the intention of building a bridge across Malibongwe Drive pending council approval, which is in process,” concluded Potter.
