BREAKING NEWS: Sangoma accused of using her child for witchcraft

ZANDSPRUIT - Sangoma's child found wandering around in the early hours of the morning.

Residents are currently camping outside a sangoma’s yard demanding answers about how her daughter (9) ended up in someone else’s yard in the early hours of 19 September.

They are accusing her of sending her child to bewitch neighbouring residents in the Zandspruit Informal Settlement.

An angry mob of women shouted, “We are giving you six hours” outside the known sangoma’s home at around 11am on 22 September.

Resident Gali Goagenediwe said it was on 19 September between 4am and 5am when she decided to visit her mother and noticed the child. “Just by the passage, I noticed something and after getting closer, I noticed it was a little girl,” said Goagenediwe.

“The child looked scared, she was shaking. I asked her what she was doing here and she ran away. I followed her and found her sitting between two shacks,” added Goagenediwe.

Residents are accusing the sangoma of using her child for witchcraft, and the situation is tense.

The sangoma Lindiwe Baloyi said, “My child ran away from home on 19 September after refusing to take her medication. She is not a witch, but sick and sometimes she loses her mind.”

The Zandspruit Community Patrollers’ commander Kenneth Lekalakala said, “There will be a community meeting on 22 September to discuss the matter. For now, I am asking the community to calm down.”

No case has been opened with the police as yet.
