GALLERY: SPCA hosts first fun walk

DELTA PARK – The first public walk for the SPCA was sparsely attended.

The SPCA in Randburg held their inaugural fun walk event at Delta Park on 19 September. The event ran from 10am to 1pm and cost walkers a R50 donation to participate. Members of the community were invited to join the walk to support the SPCA and bring their dogs along to enjoy the day. Some dogs from the SPCA were also brought along.

The event was poorly attended on the day. Craig Rudman, general manager of the SPCA in Randburg, expressed his gratitude to the “few people that came through,” and proposed that a number of factors might have kept people away on the busy Saturday. “It was a bit of a disappointing turnout honestly. I think the rugby had a lot to do with it,” mused Rudman, “but it was the first event we’ve had like this. In the future it will be an annual event.”

The SPCA in Randburg is a non-profit organisation based in North Riding. Their objectives include investigations into cases of animal cruelty, taking in stray or unwanted animals, pet adoption and education programs.
