Wandsworth School raises funds for their children

BOSKRUIN – Golfers participated in the annual fundraising golf day which helps the school to raise funds for their children.

Wandsworth School for Children with Special Educational Needs hosted its 8th annual fundraising golf day on 17 September in Jackal Creek.

Golfers from several clubs in Gauteng, with a vast interest in the school based in Boskruin, participated in the golf day while some of the players sponsored the holes.

The school principal Sue Fowlds explained that most of the players were regular supporters.

“We call them ‘Wandsworth Warriors’ and the raised fees help us minimise our monthly cost at the school and also subsidises children’s fees,” Fowlds said.

The school is accredited by the Gauteng Department of Education and is part of the Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN).

She added that they can accommodate children from three years to 16 years-old with varying degrees of severe learning difficulties.

The school currently has 36 pupils and it can accommodate 50 pupils.

One of the players, Grant Syme, said he was playing to create awareness for the special needs that the school children required.

“We need to help them as much as possible. We want these children to smile and feel as normal as possible,” commented Syme.

Wayne O’ Reilly of the Celltone company said he felt they should participate and give back to school, which is part of their community.

“We give to any organisation and make a difference,” said Oreilly.
