Keep safe on our streets

HONEYDEW – The silly season is almost upon us and residents should keep safe on the streets.

Let the community take back their streets – avoid becoming a crime statistic and follow safety tips provided by the Honeydew Police Station’s spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs:

• Try not to walk in remote places at any time.

• Be aware of your surroundings.

• If people start milling around you – beware – it could be a set-up for a robbery.

• Never overload yourself with parcels – it makes you a target.

• Do not carry large sums of money.

• If you are out at night, stick to well-lit areas. Also try to go out in groups.

• Carry your wallet and cellphone in an inside or front pocket (out of sight).

• Know the area that you are in – always know your street address, with the nearest corner. Make sure of the location of restaurants or stores that stay open late as well as public telephones.

• Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
