Women claim assault in the bar

Owner of bar says women asked for the punches.

Pictures of a badly bruised woman’s face were shared on Facebook. It is alleged that the woman was assaulted at the Chicago’s Piano Bar in Randpark Ridge on 5 September.

According to the post shared by Chantal Anne Butcher, who said she was part of the group of women who attended a reunion at Chicago, two of the women went to the bar and was confronted by a verbally abusive man who later hit them.

But the Chicago’s Piano Bar owner Kathryn Holland said the man might have been rude, but the women started the fight.

“One of the two women first punched the man in the face, before going back to her table to have a discussion with friends and then she went back to hit the man for the second time,” said Holland.

The Facebook handler Butcher claimed the man insulted and pushed one of the women until she decided to smack him in the face.

Butcher said in her post that once the dust settled down, the man ambushed and punched both women in the face.

The Chicago’s Holland calls the women’s actions “malicious rumour”.

Holland said, “The man and the women were all my clients so I don’t have motives to defend any of them.”

She said the group of about 10 women spent the whole afternoon and evening enjoying their reunion.

“The women should have approached the managers to help deal with the situation. It was my husband Trevor who noticed and tried to assists but the woman’s mother insulted him.

“At the end they were all instructed to leave,” she said.

She said none of the women ever contacted Chicago again other than posting the malicious one-sided stories on Facebook.

“If the women wanted to resolve this in a good manner, they should have contacted us,” she said.

Questions were sent to Honeydew Police but they have yet respond.
