Depressing first week of Spring

JOBURG – The first week of Spring saw major events being cancelled due to the cold weather.

It might be spring but the cold weather has hit a large part of the country.

During the past weekend, many Johannesburg residents were gearing up to celebrate the change of the season, but the weather was just not kind enough.

Again, as the wet weather conditions swept across the country, the much anticipated Jozi Urban Race Adventure (JURA) and the Jozi Urban Mountain Bike Adventure (JUMA) which were set to take place on 5 and 6 September respectively, were cancelled due to severe damage to the track. The combined events cost the organisers approximately R5.3 million, however, an estimated half of this amount is refundable expenditure.

The Bird Fair organisers at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens were also at the mercy of the weather – the public did not show up for the event.
