BLAIRGOWRIE – Matric dance dresses are donated to the needy.

Pupils at Blue Eagle High School based in Cosmo City have joined with Sandtonview High School to raise funds to help disadvantaged matric pupils who can’t afford to buy fancy matric dance dresses.

The pupils gathered at a charity event organised by Lisof Design Academy, in Blairgowrie, during The Haute Bag Project function on 29 August.

The matric dance charity was initiated by a group of students called Enchanted.

Natalie Wood from Enchanted said matric dances means a lot to pupils.

The group said some pupils don’t have money because their parents are unemployed and some parents don’t earn much.

Wood said, “For the less fortunate children, raising money for a dress, cosmetics and make-up can be too much.”

Wood said what they have done so far is to find three fashion companies, and will organise a competition for pupils to win the dresses.

“There are so many disadvantaged pupils out there so a competition is the best selection method,” she said.

Wood said House of HSC Superior Clothing donated R7 000 dress, jewellery and make-up; Pallu donated a R5 500 dress while Mone is tailoring a dress.

Blue Eagle High School Matric Dance will be on 4 December while Sandtonview High School will have theirs on 2 October.
