Armed robbers held residents hostage at a physiotherapist offices at the corner Old Kilcullen and Peter Place Road in Bryanston on 24 August.

A security guard responded to the panic alarm and was shot at when he arrived on the scene.

He said the shot guard was taken to a local hospital after the incident.

Bopape couldn’t comment further on how many people were in the physiotherapists office.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the guard heard an alarm from the premises, he went to investigate and on his arrival the robbers shot at him.

“He sustained minor injuries after the shooting,” said Meiring.

Meiring said police and emergency services rushed to the scene, where on their arrival they found the guard sitting next to his vehicle.

“On assessment, paramedics found that the man had apparently been shot once in the back. Fortunately he had been wearing his bulletproof vest at the time.

“We treated the man for his injuries and thereafter transported him to hospital for further treatment,” said Meiring.
