WINDSOR WEST - The property industry has made strides in women's career development, argued the managing director of Seeff Randburg, Anthony Ketcher.

Women from different professional levels in the property industry were treated to an inspirational, informative and engaging business network on 21 August.

The network arranged and hosted by Seeff Randburg in Windsor West, highlighted the achievements made by women and areas where women’s activism is still needed.

Tony Ketcher managing director at the Randburg branch, saluted women in the property industry and other spheres.

“The property industry is very challenging and demands people to work long hours while facing daily rejection from customers, yet women have shown incredible and significant progress. The real estate industry has enabled women to develop careers and professional opportunities, particularly when those opportunities have not always been available in certain other industries. Eighty-one per cent of agents at Seeff Randburg are women and we have agents who have crafted very successful careers through real estate, over a number of years,” Ketcher.

The managing director also encouraged those who want to join the industry, that they must be willing to undertake the training that is necessary to achieve the Estate Agency Affairs Board accreditation.

Ketcher added that he has also seen a significant influence of women in the home buying process

“Our statistics reflect that 35 per cent of home buyers in our trading area are now women who are purchasing properties in their own names. I would also suggest that the women have significant influence in the buying decision where a husband and wife are purchasing a home either as newly weds on where there are children involved,” he said.

Guest speaker was Lorna Greyling, who is a corporate image consultant, motivational speaker and business owner of Melville Wellness Centre and Day Spa.

Greyling shared tips on corporate image and advised women on how they can dress to suit their body shape and skin colour.

“As women we sometimes make mistakes of buying stuff we do not need. We are emotional buyers. This leads women to having clothes that they do not need and they may never wear,” explained Greyling.

She shared how warm and cool colours work according to body shapes and skin tones.

“As women, you should know your clients and understand the events or environment that you are going to work in. If you are talking to business people, ensure that you include black, red or blue colours which command authority,”
