Delta Park School enjoyed a double measure of success in August as Michaela Dobson shone in the gymnastic world and the U-14 soccer team put in the best performance in Delta Park School history.
Grade 3 student Michaela Dobson qualified for Central Gauteng Gymnastics Junior Colours and has been selected to represent the region at the North Zone Challenge in Kempton Park on 27–29 August. This after receiving a silver medal and a silver pin at the Gauteng Regionals on 1 August and coming third on vault in the club competition.
Dobson has been involved in gymnastics since nursery school and is a member of Visions Gymnastics Club. Although it can be very strenuous, Dobson said that she enjoys it and it inspires her to do even better in the future.
The U-14 boys soccer team made it to the semi-finals of the Johannesburg Primary School Football Association League (JPSFA). The semi-finals were held at Sacret Heart School on 4 August. Delta Park School played North West Christian School. The match was fiercely contested with scores level at three all at full time. Both teams scored in extra time, forcing the match to be decided based on the number of corners the teams had taken during the match. North West Christian School advanced to the finals but the Delta Park School boys still took the honour of best performance ever by a Delta Park School team.
Coach Sarah Bailey said, “The U-14 team has been exceptionally dedicated this term and have put in hours of extra practice. They have developed a great bond as a team. They have certainly made their coach, all the staff and pupils at Delta Park School exceptionally proud. Not only did they play a stellar game but they showed incredible sportsmanship and maturity despite the outcome.”
Delta Park School hopes to continue to improve their sport.
