Zone 5 alliance summit

JOBURG – ANC Zone 5 holds an alliance summit to determine ways forward in building congress alliance for the radical local socio-economic transformation.

A Zone 5 alliance meeting was held at the Florida Civic Centre on 15 August to resolve issues surrounding local socio-economic transformation.

Zone 5 covers regions B and C which include areas such as Roodepoort, Randburg and Northcliff.

Organisations that were present at the meeting included South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO), ANC Youth League (ANCYL), ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), South African Communist Party (SACP) and Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

Ward 126 chairperson Warren MacKrill said, “We have these meeting to accurately address a way forward for the zone and areas within it.”

The meeting focused on different issues and challenges.

Their main concerns were:

– The state of the alliance

– Battle of ideas, organisation and campaigns as well as media

– Legislature, governance, service delivery and hotspots.

Member of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee councillor Willie van der Schyf commented, “We need more events like this in order to give awareness to the great work being done in our area. Zone 5 and, more specifically, regions B and C have much potential and we must work together to achieve greatness.”

The final outcome of the summit and the commissions that were discussed was:

– To view the progress made by implementing the resolutions of the April 2012 Summit,

– Receive reports on the National Alliance Summit,

– To adopt forward-looking resolutions that will inform the zonal alliance short- to medium-term programme of action.
