UPDATE: Liesl wants to support initiatives that will save other children

NORTHGATE – Klara’s mother, Liesl Gottert, is overwhelmed by the messages of condolences and is calling for initiatives and foundations that will save other children.

The mother of the teenager who fell to her death at the Northgate Shopping Centre, Liesl Göttert, is still traumatised by the sudden passing of her daughter.

She was too distraught to comment and only referred the newspaper to her Facebook post.

Liesl wrote in the morning of 14 August, that she was overwhelmed with the messages of condolences and support.

Her daughter,14-year-old Klara Göttert, was a pupil at the German School in Parktown /Westcliff.

She went missing on 11 August and her body was discovered the same day.

“Social media truly allows our generation to connect with each other, one-on-one, and not to rely on mass media alone to tell our stories,” wrote Liesl on her Facebook account.

She further wrote, “In good time we could perhaps channel some of this incredible goodwill into an initiative or foundation that will save other children and people from making this same mistake that my baby girl made – and to support existing initiatives that are already doing just that.”

She indicated that many people from across the globe have sent beautiful messages, stories, motivation, light, love, blessings and prayers.

“With every message I read, I can feel the support and love with which it was sent,” Liesl wrote.

Klara’s funeral will be held on 15 August at Aasvoëlkop Dutch Reformed church, corner of Alida Road and Lawley Avenue in Northcliff.

Meanwhile SAPS Major Mack Mngomezulu explained that an inquest was under investigations.

“I don’t have anything regarding the CCTV footage,” Maj Mngomezulu said.

Liesl indicated that when the funeral is over, she would like to spend some time thinking and putting her thoughts together about her daughter and the events that led to this tragedy.
