Blairgowrie resident Jeren Seeger triumphs

BLAIRGOWRIE – Jeren Seegers from Blairgowrie completed the Ironman 70.3 Durban on 2 August.

Local resident Jeren Seegers completed the Ironman 70.3 Durban on 2 August and won in his age group 30 – 34 years.

Seegers who resides in Blairgowrie also finished second in the overall age group, and sixth in the category of professional overall age group.

“I feel very pleased with my result at the Ironman 70.3 Durban,” said Seeger.

He said, “Winning my age group and finishing in sixth place overall was a great result for me. The race was definitely one of my best to date. Hard work, dedication and a lot of sacrifice really paid off,” recounted Seegers.

Seeger is dedicated to the sport of triathlon. He also said during the race 50 per cent of the field were first time athletes which is testament to the ever-increasing popularity of the sport.

This athlete did his first half ironman in 2011 and has since competed both locally and internationally.

He has also done full distance ironman races.

“I have always been very sporty – playing rugby and cricket throughout my school career,” said the runner.

He is also an avid swimmer and runner, but confessed that triathlon is his first love.

Seegers believes that his secret to winning is his dedication to his training programme.

Seeger advised that if you find yourself in love with the sport then find a training plan that works for you.

“Consistency and persistence are key elements to success. Find a good balance between training and daily life. Most of all make sure you have fun,” Seegers concluded.
