VIDEO: Applause for Kamp

KYA SAND – The face of Judah Africa Community Development.

Carla-Lee Kamp has changed the face of the Kya Sand Pipeline Informal Settlement.

From the tender age of 12, she has been involved in the socio-economic development sector reaching areas like Darenkop, Lenasia and Msawawa.

Kamp, now a formidable woman, is the managing director of the Judah Africa Community Development in Kya Sand.

Her number one role is to manage the upliftment of the Pipeline Informal Settlement.

She writes policies for government and the stakeholders to determine sustainable socio-economical solutions for the community.

“We want to build a city within a city (Pipeline Informal Settlement) and then formalise the infrastructures that are already there,” said Kamp.

Her dream is to develop the flagship model for South Africa, meaning to stop the expansion of the settlement, while increasing social and economic structures to become a completely off-grid and self-sustained community.

Watch as Kamp vocalises her working dream for her community.

Another important role is that of disaster management. Kamp explained,“I head-up the management by holding meetings immediately after a disaster, I mobilise the relevant people and evaluate a plan.” Within hours, necessary entities such as SAPS and community leaders are briefed on their role and the evaluated timeline for aid and relief.

Not only is Kamp active in the settlement, but this ‘Superwoman’ is now the deputy chairperson of the Sector 2 CPF. Through her efforts, she is helping SAPS to achieve their objectives to reduce crime in the area. Many community members have praised her endless efforts, time and dedication to the community.
