Linden CPF elects new executive

LINDEN – The newly elected CPF executive should meet with the police within a period of seven working days.

The new Community Policing Forum (CPF) executive was elected during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Linden Police Station on 4 August.

Lara Bath is the new chairperson and Yaron Shapiro is her deputy. John Dott was elected as the new treasurer while Moeti Moalosi is the new secretary. Themba Nofemele and Thule Mdleleni will lead the public relations portfolio.

The outgoing chairperson Jadd Harding insisted that circumstances did not allow him to continue anymore. “I have other commitments in the provincial level. My tenure has ended,” said Harding.

He said despite his departure he would continue assisting the CPF and the new executive.

The former treasurer Christo Botes initially presented the audited financial report from the years 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and residents were welcomed to view the reports.

Linden SAPS Station Commander Colonel Balaraman Govindasamy addressed residents and warned them that neglecting personal safety posed dire consequences. “Criminals use opportunities available to them to gain entrance inside the property, especially the inside information,” he explained.

Col Govindasamy reckoned that the station had attended few rape cases in the Linden precinct where residents left the doors unlocked. “The safety and security of you and your loved ones lies primarily on you,” he told residents.

He complained that the level of crime in the Linden precinct was unacceptable and appealed to residents to work actively together to own the streets back.

“Brief the people you bring to your property about what to do and what not to do, especially domestic workers and contractors,” said Col Govindasamy.

The new chairperson Bath indicated that they learned from communities that were crime-free and copied their strategies of creating a crime-free society.

“It is easier to manage information when you have data. We then duplicate that information and make it available in our area,” concluded Bath.
