St Stithians’ karate siblings win gold

BRYANSTON — Two siblings from St Stithians Boys' and Girls' preparatory recently win gold at a recent karate championship.

Siblings Nicholas(11) and Claudia Dobson(12) of St Stithians Girls’ and Boys’ preparatory school participated at the Karate National Development on 24 – 25 July.

The two were selected to represent the Gauteng Karate Federation at the Karate South Africa National Development, SA Open and Elite Championship held at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Old Mutual Sport Hall in Durban.

Nicholas and Claudia competed in the category for elite athletes of SA that were either national championships of the past, present and current Proteas.

While Claudia won double gold for individual kata as well as gold for kumite, Nicholas won double gold for team kata and again scooped a medal for Kumite in his age group as well as bronze for individual kata. Claudia said she is happy about her achievements.

“I am very happy with the placing. The competition was of a very high standard and Nicholas and I had to practice very hard in preparation for the event,” Claudia said.

Nicholas was also chuffed and said, “I am very pleased because I enjoy karate and have trained very hard.”
