GALLERY and VIDEO: Rand Park High hosts Winter Sports Festival

RANDPARK RIDGE – Grade 6 Winter Sports festival left no child disappointed.

Touch rugby, netball, and hockey all shone at the Rand Park High Winter Sports Festival on 1 August.

Over 80 Grade 6 pupils from Rand Park Primary, Weltevreden Park Primary, IR Griffith Primary and Constantia Kloof Primary School participated.

They were split into mixed teams that were representative of the four schools and invited to participate in both sports regardless of whether they had played these sports before.

It also gave the pupils an opportunity to experience ‘high school life’ as well as make new friends.

Rand Park High Grade 11 pupils and Matrics were the team managers.

They had to organise teams, mentor, coach, and build spirit for some players who had never played the sport before.

Principal of Rand Park High School, Alan Wilke said, “As team mentors and managers, the Rand Park High pupils were given an opportunity to build their communication and leadership skills, while being role-models for the younger festival participants.”

The games were all successful and many teams and individuals won medals, trophies and vouchers from Sportsman’s Warehouse.
