GAUTENG – ‘Once in a blue Moon’ will actually happen tonight, 31 July.
The question is, will the moon actually be blue? The truth is sadly no. The saying ‘blue moon’ originated in the 19th century and indicated an occurrence of a bizarre nature.
This is exactly what a blue moon is. “It is the second full moon in the same month,” said West Rand Astronomy Club astronomer Kenny Nevil. The next blue moon is supposed to happen on 31 January 2018.
Therefore, in the spirit of the rare occasion, get outside and celebrate. Go do something that you don’t do often and enjoy the majesty of nature.
