RANDPARK RIDGE – Rand Park High School pupils provide stiff competition for the title and prizes.

Despite freezing temperatures, pupils competed for the title of Mr and Miss Rand Park High School 2015 on 25 July.

According to the school’s marketing, public relations and communications officer, Heather Robinson, the prizes were worth competing for. “Each of the top six qualified for a month-long contract from Figures Models plus the special prize winners: Miss Entrepreneur, Photogenic and Personality. They also received a photographic shoot as a prize. In addition to these contracts, there were numerous prizes for beauty treatments and other vouchers for each winner,” she explained.

The evening had a great turnout by parents and fellow pupils. As it was a fundraiser for the Matric dance later this year, it had full-house support.

Past pupil Denzel ‘Washington’ Dhlamini put on an entertaining comedic performance, drawing comparisons between American and African cinema. Previous pupils also gave dance performances in-between competition segments.

The competition itself was a captivating affair with contestants modelling casual and evening wear. The highlight was the segment where the contestants had to model their own creations to fit in the evening’s theme – Candyland.

The judges had their work cut out for them. They were Mr South Africa 2013 John Owens, Charne Spies of Figure Models, actress Candice Weber and former Rand Park High School pupil and Miss India Gauteng 2015 Sherianne Pillay.

The final winners were announced as follows: the second prince and princess were Aaron van der Heever and Saigan McNeill. The first prince and princess were Reece Bahnemann and Jade Wagstaff. Mr and Miss Rand Park High School were Xander Steyn and Jamie Fermor . Special awards went to Jade Wagstaff (Miss Personality), Saigan McNeill (Miss Photogenic) and Nieka Chetty (Miss Entrpreneur).
