UPDATE: Suspects fail to snatch cash after shootout

RANDBURG – Eight armed suspects flee without cash.

Eight armed suspects failed to snatch the cash from the SBV Security Group on 25 July, after shooting at the guards.

Assailants allegedly shot at the guards who were delivering cash at Standard Bank in Randburg Square Shopping Centre in the morning.

An eyewitness claimed the bullets were flying from all over, as the armed robbers were shooting at the SBV security guard who was delivering the cash to the bank.

According to Gauteng SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, two security guards were allegedly dropping off money at the bank at 10am in the morning.

“The guards were then confronted by eight armed suspects upon their arrival. The guard with the money trolley was alerted by his partner – still in the security van – about the suspects. He then dashed into the bank as robbers were firing shots,” said Lt Col Mogale.

A  shootout ensued and the suspects fled the scene without taking any money.

“Cases of attempted cash-in-transit and attempted murder have been opened for investigation,” Lt Col Mogale confirmed.
