Bunnies in the box horror

RANDPARK RIDGE – Bunnies kept in boxes for a long period of time seems to be of no concern to the Lifestyle Pet Store.

Reports surfaced about an unknown number of bunnies that were allegedly kept in cardboard boxes, for over two and a half hours at the Lifestyle Pet Store on 20 July.

Lunch time visitors went to Lifestyle and happened to walk past the bunnies on their way to lunch.

At the end of their visit at the centre which was about two and a half hours later, the two women approached the pet store manager.

Gemma Thiart, one of the visitors said on her Facebook Page, [The manager] said,” ‘You people are sent here to pick fights with us’ and if ‘we want them we must take them’.”

Thiart added, “Something needs to be done urgently.”

Manager of the Lifestyle pet store, Ian Scheepers said on 21 July, “Some people brought in the bunnies like that in the boxes.”

He added that he didn’t know what time the bunnies were dropped off at the store.

Scheepers said, “I have taken them to a friend in Krugersdorp who homes and sells bunnies.”

Randburg SPCA General Manager Craig Rudman commented, “We have received many complaints about the bunnies. The SPCA will be investigating this incident. At this stage there is no information available.”
