MALANSHOF – Soccer players from Windsor enjoy developing their skills at the Little Legends Foundation soccer sessions.

Little Legends Foundation gathers players from Windsor to develop their soccer skills.

The over 100 children that attend the sessions, for free, at the Randburg Indoor Soccer League every Saturday, are trained from 9am to 2pm and are treated to a light lunch. The players range from U10’s to U14’s. The objective of the initiative is to remove the boys from the negative influences that can affect them in their neighbourhoods.

Resident coach and player Stanley Maruza volunteers to help train the players. “I want them to take this game seriously and by teaching them how to play, they can have pride in their lives, instead of hanging around on the streets,” said Maruza.

The league is always looking for coaches who are willing to commit to helping out with the training.

Previously the programme invited players from as far as Diepsloot, however, the cost became too great to afford the transport costs. The players walk all the way from Windsor to attend the sessions. Little Legends Foundation needs sponsors in order to help grow the project. Little Legends Foundation administrator Ian Dally said, “Not only are the players learning how to play soccer more effectively, they are learning valuable life skills. We would love to expand the initiative to other areas, including bringing back our educational programme.” He added, “We need sponsors to help with kits, balls, bibs and food.”
