JOBURG — Facebook launches in Joburg to extend its social footprint in Africa.

Johannesburg is the proud new home of the first Facebook office in Africa.
Launched at Melrose Arch on 29 June, the headquarters will be headed by Nunu Ntshingila, chairperson for Ogilvy & Mather SA.
The Social network’s vice president for Europe, Nicola Mendelsohn told Bloomberg News that Africa was one of the places they trusted their next billion users would come from.
The offices are to expand and focus on growing markets in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. It will also look to cement its footprint on the continent and boost growth and development in other parts of Africa.
According to the social networking site, around 100 million people across Africa join Facebook every month, with 80 per cent of those users on mobile.
