Eskom’s tariff request reduced to 9.5 per cent

JOBURG – Eskom’s acting CEO, Brian Molefe announced that Eskom has reduced its tariff hike request to 9.5 per cent from 12.7 per cent.

Eskom’s acting CEO, Brian Molefe announced on 23 June that the power utility would reduce the tariff hike request to 9.5 per cent from 12.7 per cent for the 2015/16 financial year.

Molefe made the announcement at a hearing held by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) in Johannesburg to discuss the latest tariff increase application by Eskom.

However, Eskom is pleading to Nersa to approve application for the 25.3 per cent electricity tariff increase.

About half of the required percentage has already been approved.

Meanwhile, Weltevreden Park resident, and DA leader Mmusi Maimane informed that the party opposes the electricity tariff hike.

Nersa is expected to make its decision at the end of the month.
