FERNDALE – Residents get their hands dirty to keep their suburb clean.

Fed up with vagrants polluting the spruit between Bond and Hill streets, the Ferndale East Resident’s Association decided to take matters in their own hands.

Members from the association, as well as members from the Ferndale Village Association and 42 Precinct Security armed with gloves and plastic bags held a clean-up on 13 June. Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood also attended lending a helping hand to the residents.

FERA chairperson Conrad Fick said, ”Vagrants have moved into the area and they leave their rubbish all over. We have asked for assistance from various City departments, but no one responds.”

During the clean-up several vagrants living along the spruit were warned by police officers from the Randburg Police Station to pack up their things and move out.

“We need more residents to get involved. There are more than 550 households in Ferndale and only a handful are active members of the association. The members we do have work very hard and give everything to keep our suburb clean.”
