No such thing as a free lunch

Pikitup says although new bins are free, a service fee for refuse collection of each individual bin still applies.

There seems to be some confusion among the public regarding the costs involved when ordering a new, additional or replacement 240 litre Pikitup wheelie bin from the Joburg Connect Call Centre.

Referring to the previous article in the Randburg Sun, Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu advised residents and business owners that since 1 July 2014, the customer will indeed incur no charge for new or additional bins, and replacement of stolen or damaged ones. The customer will, however, still be charged a fee for the weekly refuse collection service of each bin. This will be reflected in the customer’s account which is billed on a monthly basis.

“If you happen to order two or three new bins, you will most certainly see this service fee duplicated on your municipal statement,” said Mashapu.
