Rocky needs a solid home

NORTHRIDING – Big, fluffy and white Rocky was returned to the SPCA for being too ‘timid’.

Rocky, a Swiss shepherd of about two years old, lived a life of misery, spending his days confined to a small crate and he desperately needs a home.

The initial owner gave him to a security company as they no longer wanted him. This was not the end of his troubled journey, as the security company no longer wanted him either as he failed to perform well as he lacked aggression toward humans. This comes as no surprise as SPCA Randburg kennel manager Leigh De Beaufort explained, “He was no use as a security dog because he was relegated to spending his life in a small box.”

National Council of SPCA (NSOCA) became involved in the situation and removed the dog from the company and took him to SPCA Randburg. Morag, the kind dog behaviourist specialist, began working with Rocky to rebuild his trust and lack of self-esteem. Morag gave him lots of human interaction and long walks in the field. De Beaufort said, “He has never lived in a home environment so he prefers to sleep outdoors.” She further added, “Although he is shy, gentle and timid, he has the most fabulous nature.”

Rocky has had many strikes out when it comes to finding a forever home. As many like him, he needs an owner that is patient, gentle and willing to give Rocky time to adjust.
