Residents should vote for fibre optics

LINDEN – Vumatel is an optic fibre installation company that launched a survey where residents from various suburbs can vote for their suburb to receive this new form of technology.

Fibre optics is a new technology used to transport data with the speed of light in comparison to the older Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), explains Giorgio Iovino from Vumatel.

Vumatel is a fibre optics installation company that decided to involve the public with the installation process.

“We have decided to select suburbs which we call ‘fibrehoods’ where we intend to install our network, and we have given these residents the power to vote for their suburb. In order to do this, we asked residents to complete a non-binding on-line survey.”

He added that the first suburb to receive their revolutionary optic cables was Parkhurst followed by Greenside a month later.

“We have four steps: the first step is the interest phase where residents can do this by pledging their support online. If more than 40 per cent of the residents vote for their suburb, then there is a good chance that they will receive these fibre optic cables,” said Iovino.

He explained that according to the online survey, Saxonwold is now in the lead, followed by Emmarentia in third place with 35 per cent of the votes from their residents, and Linden is in fifth place with 30 per cent.

“We are currently in communication with the Linden Residents’ Association that wants us to install the fibre optic cables in their suburb, and this is not just because of faster internet speed but also with regard to security – security companies can run their CCTV cameras around Linden through these cables at a very fast speed.

“We urge residents to click on this link and to go and vote for their suburb”
