SADAG brings you closer to the experts

RANDPARK RIDGE — Join the discussions with expert psychiatrists about your treatment queries.

Many South Africans are prescribed medication for depression, bipolar, anxiety, panic attacks and a variety of other mental illnesses every day.

However, we are often not informed about what we can expect, what they are being used for, what the side effects are or how long we will be taking it. The South African Drug and Anxiety Group (SADAG) will bring the professionals closer to you to answer all your medication-related queries.

On 12 June, Psychiatrists from Randpark Ridge and Sandton will host live chats on Facebook between 7 and 8pm to talk directly with patients and answer specific questions.

“It is vital for [our] long-term well-being and health that we can access information regarding our treatment, but sometimes doctors do not have time to give us all the information we need,” said Cassey Chamber of SADAG.

Psychiatrists Dr Mashadi Motlana, Dr Helen Clarke and Dr Sheldon Zilesnick will answer questions related to treatment on SADAG’s Facebook page. The chat will allow participants to interact live with the experts to clarify any concerns about a family member’s or friend’s condition.

Questions you might have about your psychiatric medication:

• Is my medication known by any other names?

• Has it been effective for others and how will it help me?

• How long will it take to see any positive effects?

• What happens if I miss a dose of my medication?
