Joburg choirs battle it out

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Fairland Laerskool choir wows the crowd.

Junior Primary School choirs from across Joburg had the chance to perform at the semi-finals of Sing in Harmonie that took place at the NG Church in Weltevreden Park on 4 June.

Sing in Harmonie [Sing in Harmony] is a schools’ choir programme that airs on Kyknet’s music on channel 146 on DSTV.

The schools that participated in the event were Laerskool Constantia Park, Laerskool Vastrap, Laerskool Roodekrans, Laerskool Fairland and Curro Krugersdorp.

The show was presented by Anthonie Bougas who is a well known actor and singer. He opened the evening with the show’s theme song before the choirs battled it out.

Laerskool Constantia Park was on first and surprised the crowd with their interesting outfits. Laerskool Vastrap and Laerskool Roodekrans were up next followed by Laerskool Fairland which was one of the best choirs there, according to Lydia Winchester who is a public relations officer to some of most popular singers in music industry.

“They seemed extremely eager to sing and perform in front of a large crowd,” said Winchester.

Principal at Fairland Laerskool, Willie Goosen said, “The junior choir is our pride at Fairland Laerskool and we wish them all the best for the choir competition.”

Randburg resident and singer Tobi Jooste took the stage and performed a gospel medley as the five choirs ended with their songs.

Bougas concluded and said, “Unfortunately, the results cannot be released to the media yet as the show will only air on Kyknet on 14 August. But I have to thank the children and their parents for attending the show and braving the cold weather.”
