Art exhibition showcases talent of the elderly

NORTH RIDING – U3A organisation invites the public to attend its art exhibition.

Hobbies are important to retired people as they have time to try out something new that they have never done before – like painting.

Gisela Stanek who is from the U3A organisation explained that this is extremely important to the organisation because they have arranged an art exhibition where retired people from the organisation has a chance to share their work with the rest of the world.

According to Stanek the organisation is a place where groups of people come together to share skills, knowledge and experience in an association of their own design.

She said, “Small groups of people gather in private homes where they discuss certain subjects under the guidance of a course leader. Membership is open to all and we aim to serve those no longer in full time employment.”

Stanek explained and said the exhibition is the perfect platform for the retirees to showcase their work.

“The display has been running from 23 May and only ends on the 6th of June. The expo features paintings of trees, flowers, animals and garden landscapes and it was opened by Susan Sands who also owns the traditional English Tea Garden that is located within Nichola’s Plants Nursery off Northumberland Avenue.”

She continued and said that the work (paintings) were all painted by elderly people that belong to the organisation and she added that Dr. Marquerite Prins is the tutor of the art interest group.

“Everyone is welcome to come and take a look at the expo any time from now until 6 June,” concluded Stanek.
