BORDEAUX - New Flea Market doing wonders in building community relationships.

The new monthly Park Community Flea Market has recently taken off on a high note.

Community members gathered at the Old Parks Sports Club on 30 May to showcase their handmade goods with a wide variety of furniture, food stalls, clothing, jewellery and health products.

The Park Market’s manager and coordinator, Leonie Worthington said the flea market is inspired by her ambition to empower the community with their businesses.

“My main reason for establishing a monthly market was not only because our immediate community had no access to a regular market, but I am passionate about helping the community where possible,” she said.

She added that she believes the market helps to build the community through getting families together on a market day.

The market place is also used to create employment for members of the community who sell their products and crafts for an extra income.

“Times are tough so every little bit extra helps,” said Worthington.

“I would like to see many more vendors, especially from our local area being involved and selling their goods at the market ā€“ in addition, you can have as many vendors as you like, but if the community does not support such an initiative by visiting the market then it is all to no avail,” concluded Worthington.

The market is held monthly on the last Sunday of every month at Old Parks Sports Club.
