Hunt paddles his way through

SUNDOWNER- Jaydon Hunt, a pupil at Rand Park Ridge Primary School, and resident in Sundwoner, is enjoying the river race season.

Paddlers are enjoying the river race season which is hosted by the Florida Lake Canoe Club.

One of the more than 100 paddlers who took part in the Klip River race which starts from Meyerton to Three Rivers, is Jaydon Hunt, who resides in Sundowner.

Jaydon (13), a pupil at Rand Park Ridge Primary School, started canoeing at the age of nine-years-old in the U10 group.

He has competed and earned medals in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League, and has numerous collections of silver and goldware.

Although he did not win the race on 24 May, he finished in sixth place and was the first novice and the youngest paddler on the river race.

Young Jaydon has represented the Union at both SA School Sprint inter-provincials and SA Marathon inter-provincials during past years and has enjoyed his past two years of river learning.

With support and assistance from his paddling father Kevin, as well as other adults from the club, including the community development youth team who are suitably experienced to assist novices, Jaydon’s love of river and natural canoeing ability has grown from strength to strength.

Having won a podium position in the first novice Klip River race in April, Jaydon and partner Donald Moncho were outraced at the Florida Lake Canoe Club race, but they were still the first FLCC paddlers to finish the race in a time of 01:36:00.
