Bryanston High School boy found hanging

LYME PARK - A Bryanston High Grade 10 pupil was found hanging in a tree in the grounds of St Stithians.

The body of a boy was found in the St Stithians’ College grounds on 16 May.

He was hanging from a tree in an open field at the school in Lyme Park.

According to Randburg SAPS acting station commander Colonel Andries Odendaal, “The boy was found outside of the college. He appeared to be about 16-years-old.”

He further added that paramedics declared him dead on scene at about 6.30am.

St Stithians College has released a comment. “An early-morning walker near the dams discovered the body of a boy hanging from a tree. Our staff and the police responded quickly, and the body was taken away to the mortuary, ” said Rector of St Stithians College, Dr Tim Nuttall. “The boy was identified as a resident of a house near to St Stithians [College].”

The statement also stated that John Skelton, the Principal of Bryanston High School, confirmed that the boy was a Grade 10 pupil from Bryanston High School. Both schools have asked to treat the situation with sensitivity and respect. “[This] For the family of the deceased who are dealing with the unexpected trauma,” said Dr Nuttal.

Bryanston High School Deputy Prinicipal Andy Crighton said, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of a young life, and our thoughts and prayers are with the boy’s family and friends… The management of the school, together with our psychologist, have already arranged counselling for learners and educators needing support to cope at this difficult time.”
