UPDATE: M-Net responds to Linden uproar

LINDEN – M-Net says that it is engaging with the owner of Paputzis.

M-Net has responded regarding the complaints made by about 50 angry residents at a public meeting on 12 May. The residents met at Paputzis, Linden, to complain about issues with the Big Brother house next door to the restaurant.

“M-Net is aware of the noise concerns raised by Paputzi Restaurant in relation to Big Brother Mzansi,” said Nkateko Mabaso, director of local interest channels at M-Net. “We are engaging the proprietor of the establishment with the view to resolving the situation soonest.” He continued that Endemol Shine Africa, the producers of Big Brother, “is undertaking a sound reduction exercise that will reduce the noise and eliminate intrusive sound.”

Mabaso concluded,”Endemol Shine Africa has taken steps to reduce the impact of the show on the restaurant so that both businesses can work amicably alongside each other.”

Concerns raised by residents at the public meeting included loud music during irregular hours; loud shouting, screaming, and laughing by staff and Big Brother contestants; the back-up generator allegedly running 24 hours per day; lack of parking, severe traffic, and the potential for crime that 200 staff and an increase in strangers bring into the neighbourhood.
