It’s a wild goose chase

RANDBURG – Power surge leaves pensioner with damages of over R 10 000 and City Power not coming to the party with paying this claim.

Roughly R10 000 damages suffered, more than 25 calls, three weeks later and still no assistance or response from City Power. This is the frustration that Randburg pensioner Dimitri Economides is going through. A power surge that occurred at his house has left him with damages amounting to around R 10 000.

Economides said an article he had read in the Randburg Sun for week ending 2 April gave him hope that he will be able to claim from the power utility for his loss.

While trying to make contact with City Power, he was directed to call different numbers for assistance without his problem being resolved. “After trying many times I eventually got through, but was told I had to contact the legal department. After many attempts I was told that this was the wrong number and should phone another one,” explained Economides. “This number either just rings or if somebody answers after many attempts, they put you through a

dead-end call centre where you need an extension number, or it cuts you off,” he shared.

Accoding to him, the only thing that he managed to repair himself is the gate so that he could get in and out of his house. “This of course, I had to pay for and I only did for a partial repair as I can’t afford to pay for the full job. For everything else, I am just waiting,” Econimides said.

“I am a pensioner and really don’t know what to do here, as I feel that trying to get any joy out of City Power, is really a ‘wild goose chase’,” he highlighted.

Questions have been sent to City Power to explain why is it taking so long for Economides to be assisted and also state the right process that residents should follow when they want to lodge this type of claim.
